"To be honest, since I had worked in an assisted living setting, I was very particular about the people who would be taking care of my grandmother and the type of care she would receive.
"At Woodside, the staff members feel more like friends than just caretakers. And that’s something I grew accustomed to over the years I worked there. To me, all of these people are our family members. It is comforting to walk in and know that the person you love is being well cared for by people like that.
"Woodside is more of a community than many facilities and even with different people living on different floors and different rooms, everyone seems to get into the community spirit.
"The staff is also caring about individual needs. Something that my grandmother, as well as a couple of the other ladies, wanted was a Bible study—something that was more interactive … not someone who would just come and preach to them, but someone who would sit and actually instruct them. And that’s one of the things that has been incorporated recently that has really brought a lot of the people together.
"My family looked into most of the other area communities, but from what I was told it just wasn’t there. It’s very different here than at a lot of other facilities. I think it’s just the whole aura in general. You walk in and people say hello. There are the same friendly faces. You get very familiar with the people and it’s just like walking into a family event every time you visit.
"There are certain caregivers, especially a few individuals who were also former coworkers of mine, who consider my grandma their grandma. She’s a very special lady and it’s great to know that the people here are aware of how special she is to us. It’s a blessing that keeps on giving.
"Each person at Woodside is cared for individually so that physically, mentally and emotionally the staff is capable of seeing changes that their family members might not even be aware of. So, to know my grandma is being cared for on that level is something you can’t put a price on."
